“Right now, I am searching for talented artistes to sign to the label. Mi love dancehall and I want to play my role in getting new artistes to the forefront. Mi a voice some new acts pon a new riddim, Motto, and if the artiste has potential, I will sign them. Dancehall needs new faces and new blood, and we can’t just sit down and wait for it to happen, we have to make it happen,”Hotta Ball, real name Shaun Lennon,said.
Hotta Ball will be releasing his first official single on his HIUM label next week, with Shawn Storm’s Gal on a rhythm called Sunday.
Hotta Ball hosts weekly events such as Wet Wet Wednesdays at Caymanas River’s mineral bath in St Catherine. He also hosts another event called Happy Sundays, also at the Caymanas River mineral bath.
“The events dem shot, several artistes pass through all the while, the party vibes tun up round the mineral. These are day rave events so people can come early and enjoy the vibes and then head out to other parties,” Hotta Ball said.
Hotta Ball is in demand on the international dancehall market, with several events booked for Canada in October, Europe in November, and for Japan in December.
“The bookings dem a come in, especially for Europe and Japan. The reggae-dancehall crowd love how mi play. Mi have that international flavour and mi always a seek out new songs and new genres, so dem like how mi deal wid my ting,” Hotta Ball said.
