Dancehall artiste Furtyle Brain is concerned about the lack of loyalty being displayed by some people in the music industry. He pointed to shifting power dynamics that create a situation where there are professional entourage members that move from artiste to artiste, and movement to movement, all in the pursuit of fame.
"A lot of people in the industry are wave-riders and wagonists. They go around people to build a hype. but they are not real, and that is why there is so much bad mind in dancehall. The reality is that yu have to take a side in dancehall, it comes down to loyalty and sticking with your day one brothers," he said.
He singled out entourage members in particular.
"If yu round an artiste and nothing nah gwaan fi a while, that person jump ship, and work with another artiste, they jump from ship to ship, they are just media whores and attention seekers, going around looking a hype," he said.
He praised Popcaan for embracing his rising Dog Mosh Movement.
"Popcaan fully endorse the Dog Mosh movement, he loves the slang, the lyrics, and he endorsed me even before this project began to do well in the streets. The Dog Mosh movement is a movement within a movement," he said.
The artiste's 'Dog Mosh Clan' on the Henging Tree riddim is doing well on the streets and in social media, racking up 52,000 views on youtube in only three weeks. The semi-autobiographical song unveils a new flow from the Dog Mosh Clan boss.
"The streets ah respond in a real way, everybody ah say mi find the song now," he said.
Born and raised in Montego Bay, Furtyle had aspirations of becoming a rapper but had a change of heart years later. In 2010, he released his debut single Kickers over Clarks, which was a counteraction to Vybz Kartel's hit single Clarks.
Furtyle, whose given name is Kenardo André Robinson, is looking to flip the Dancehall Game on its ear, with a new single called 'What Her Throat Can Do' which has been labelled an Ishawna counteraction by you tubers.
"Right now, mi ah go hard fi the Summer, I plan to do a video for Dog Mosh Clan in June," he said.
