Mad Cobra has bail hearing today (July 26th)

Flex singer Mad Cobra, whose real name is Ewart Brown, will have a bail hearing this morning (July 26th). Brown was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

In South Carolina, the bail process begins with a bond hearing. At the bond hearing, a judge will determine the amount of bail that must be posted for the defendant to be released from custody. The judge may also impose conditions on the defendant’s release, such as house arrest or electronic monitoring.

Brown, who is known for songs such as Press Trigger and Dun Wife, now faces charges of trafficking cocaine and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Even though Cobra consented to the search that netted two kilos of cocaine and a gun, all is not lost for the Defend It deejay. How did the deejay get himself in this position?

On Tuesday, deputies in Florence County pulled him over for a traffic stop and discovered 2 kilos of cocaine in his vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

A release from the Florence County Sheriff’s office said that 55-year-old Ewart Everton Brown, of Fort Lauderdale, was arrested Tuesday after deputies initiated a traffic stop on his Black BMW SUV for speeding along I-95 in Florence County.

Once deputies had Brown stopped they had “reasonable suspicion” of criminal activity and asked Brown for consent to search his vehicle. During the search, they discovered 2 kilos of cocaine and a 9mm Beretta.

He now faces charges of trafficking cocaine and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Brown was taken into custody at 8:28 a.m on July 25th and is currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

The deejay Mad Cobra, was a huge star in the 1990s. He recently enjoyed a surge in popularity as his Flex hit was sampled by American singer-actress Janelle Monae in her latest single Lipstick Lover.

Flex was included on Mad Cobra’s major label début album Hard to Wet, Easy to Dry (Columbia Records). The single rose to #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on January 9, 1993, number one on the Rap Singles chart, and #7 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Flex helped Mad Cobra’s Hard to Wet, Easy to Dry album scale the Billboard 200 albums (number 125) and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts (number 17).

In 2016, American girl group Fifth Harmony sampled Flex in their double-platinum selling single All in My Head (Flex).

Mad Cobra is also known for the hit singles Press Trigger, Yush, Gundelero, Tek Him, Dis Dem Anyweh, Dun Wife and Defend It.

Other songs that did well overseas incLude Legacy, featuring Richie Stephens (it was featured on Hard to Wet, Easy to Dry), reached 64 on the British charts in 1993, while in 1996, Big Long John peaked at 79 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Tracks chart.
