US-based fusion artiste Neka Leslie is confident that her collaboration, ‘African Girl’ with international dancehall star Busy Signal will facilitate her breakthrough in the international music industry.
“This song is for all the beautiful black women across the world. It’s a celebration of our beauty, our African heritage, and our unique qualities. We are black and beautiful and powerful, so let’s celebrate it,” said the artiste whose real name is Shaneka Leslie.
African Girl is scheduled to be released along with a supporting music video on January 28th.
The song which is a blend of Reggae and Afro Beat was produced by the talented artiste for her Neka Leslie Music Group imprint and J August Reid of J. August Music.
“I am anticipating a good response from music lovers all over the world when my single is released. It’s my first major project and I am very excited about it. I am also very grateful to Busy Signal for being a part of this project. I learned a lot from him while working on this single,” said Neka Leslie.
She is also gearing up for the release of a follow up single, ‘Real Life’ which will be released mid-March under her label. The single will be distributed via online channels through British Links.
The Westmoreland born singer who resides in Atlanta, Georgia will be releasing a 6 track EP later this year.
Neka Leslie (given name Shaneka Leslie) was born and raised in Westmoreland, Jamaica. She launched her career at the age of 18. Since then, she has shared the stage with several established artistes including Jah Cure, Jagged, Edge, Christopher Martin, Konshens, Mavado and Octane.
She is also seeking to make major moves as head of her own indie label.
“I want to create a solid foundation and formula that will benefit the talent of the future. I started this label to learn the business so I could put myself in a position to assist others in the future,” she said.
