Alkaline fails to grab top prize, and nosedives on the second week on Billboard

ALKALINE

Dancehall star Alkaline had a precipitous fall out of the Top 10 of the Billboard Reggae Albums chart after his Top Prize album debuted on the chart one week ago. Alkaline’s nosedive mirrors the experience of most dancehall acts who often see a big drop off in sales in the second week.

Top Prize, the Champion Boy singer’s sophomore album, tumbled from No. 2 to No. 12 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, which considers streaming and sales in the United States.

In its second week of release, Top Prize, sold just 62 in pure album sales and 867 units in total consumption from sales and streams in the US, according to data provided to DancehallMag from sales tracker MRC Data (formerly Nielsen SoundScan).

Last week, the album had sold 1,527 copies and 2,957 units in total consumption from sales and streams in the first week after its independent release on May 14.

Top Prize‘s significant drop in sales and streams after the first week mirrors that of recent Dancehall albums from Popcaan, Buju Banton, and Vybz Kartel.

Bob Marley And The Wailers’ Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley And The Wailers continues its reign at No. 1 on Billboard Reggae Albums chart for the 73rd consecutive week with 3,685 in pure album sales and 13,455 total units in consumption.
