When dancehall artiste JB recorded his first ever song in January 2020, it was the fulfilment of a childhood dream.
“I have always written songs over the years, and I have been producing dancehall songs for some time, but I never really decided to start taking it serious until now, and mi just fall in love with it. Since mi record my first song, I have done about six other songs, mi just ah put in the work in the studio,” JB whose real name is Jermaine Baker, said.
SInce that time, JB has consistently dropped polished tracks with strong songwriting and now the promising up-and-comer from Allman Town in Kingston is ready to step up to the next level with the release of first music video for his popular single, ‘Number One Stunna’ which showcases JB’s sing-rap flow over a stripped down dancehall beat.
The video which was shot using locations in Panama City, in Florida, USA features champagne-swilling, booty-jumping girls cavorting in expensive sports cars and sports utility vehicles.
“The video portrays the flossing lifestyle that is part of the culture of both rap and dancehall, this video has been added to rotation on HYPE, RE and FLOW,” he said.
The single, released on his own JB Productions imprint, is already available for download on several onlline platforms. The video is in rotation on HYPE, RE and Flow TV. The video is also in the top ten of the Central Expressions music chart.
BARRAGE OF SONGS
JB will be releasing a barrage of songs over the next couple of months. One of those songs will be the standout romantic single ‘Hold Me Close’ which has a much smoother vibe than most of JB’s street-influenced tracks but stays true to his sing-rap flow. Fans can also look out for ‘Never Go Down’ which boasts clever internal rhyme schemes and construction which show JB’s laser-like focus on the craft.
Other songs, such as the single, ‘I Have a Dream’ showcases his introspective side as this is a conscious song that speaks to the power of dreams in the minds of poor kids and features a sample of the famous speech by Martin Luther King.
Those songs will be released on his debut six-song EP later this year. Baker started his record label at the end of 2018 , and the since then, he has cranked out at least three riddim projects, but he is amped about his latest project, the Skool rhythm, which is a compilation of tracks from several heavyweight acts like Vybz Kartel, Sikka Rhymes, Teejay, Tashina McKenzie and JB himself.

The video for Vybz Kartel’s ‘Run Dancehall’ will be released this week on various online platforms and is being distributed by Zojak Worldwide. Plus videos for Tashina McKenzie and Sikka Rhymes are also set for release in July.
“JB Productions is coming to shake up the game in a big way,” Baker said.
JB grew up in Allman Town in Kingston, and the Clones district in Manchester. He attended Kingston High school before he migrated to the USA in 2003. He returns to Jamaica several times a year to record and produce songs.
