Albert Minott of Jolly Boys is dead

  Jamaica has lost another unique part of its heritage as Albert Minott, lead singer of the Portland-based mento band Jolly Boys, has passed away. He was 79. The singer's manager Jon Baker, owner and operator of Geejam Hotel and record label, confirmed his death via his Facebook page. 

  Dancehall star Macka Diamond has waded into the controversy surrounding Ishawna's Equal Rights' with a song provocatively entitled 'No Tongue'.

Dancehall artiste Keshan has revealed that she turned down the opportunity to do the 'Loodi' collaboration because she felt it was unethical to jump on a song with Vybz Kartel which she knew was not meant to be a bonafide collaboration. She revealed this the same day that Vybz Kartel posted the original copy of the 'Loodi' song with his vocals sans Shenseea on his VEVO page, effectively shooting down claims by Shenseaa that she had written the lyrics for her part of the song.

Jamaicans recoiled in horror yesterday when it emerged that a 14-year-old student, Orane Johnson, of Lowe River Primary and Junior High School died yesterday from chop wounds allegedly inflicted on him by an 11-year-old who lives in his community. The Wait a Bit police are investigating. 

One Direction member Harry Styles joined the growing list of celebrities who come to Jamaica to craft their new sound. He recently came to the isle to work on songs for his solo album, and he did so at Geejam Studios in Portland.
