Beenie Man was reportedly barred from performing in Trinidad on Saturday because veteran dancehall deejay Shabba Ranks allegedly threw a tantrum.

The King of the Dancehall was contacted by Island Mix promoters to cover for Barrington Levy who was forced to cancel the event due to illness. Shabba who was originally billed for the event dubbed Unplugged, allegedly demanded Beenie Man’s removal from the event.

Music industry insiders are wondering why Shabba Ranks take such a stance. And questions have been raised as to whether Beenie Man provoked him.

When Beenie Man was contacted he said no comment.

"It was unfortunate what happened," Rohan 'Blue' Smith, Beenie Man's manager, said.

Other entertainers who were billed for Trinidad’s Unplugged held on Saturday include Cobra, Tanya Stephens, Maxi Priest, Chakka Demus and Pliers among others.

Barrington Levy who is responding to treatment after being diagnosed with Dengue Fever two weeks ago was forced to cancel.

This is the third event Levy has canceled due to illness.
