Zumjay, the 21st century deejay, with the futuristic flow and offbeat rhymes, is racking up a considerable fan base among his fellow soldiers serving in the US army.

What songs have you recorded in the last three years?
'Move It Around' (Coppershot Prod.), 'Defend It' (Board House Prod.), 'Hello Jamaica' (40/40 Prod.), 'Kotch Pon Di Edge' (40/40 Prod.) and 'Live On' (Fire Links Prod.)

How do people in the army respond to you knowing that you're a deejay?
All of my colleagues think it's pretty cool that I'm a dancehall artiste. They ask me for my music all the time and it has caused my fan base to increase.

What do you consider your biggest hit to date?
And say why.

'Shake It', because it went to #3 on Jamaican charts and #1 on various European reggae charts.

Do you have any collabs with hip hop artistes?
Not at this moment but things are in the pipeline.

How has your deejay style changed over the past couple of years?
My style has always been futuristic. However, my choice of topics and vocabulary has evolved to coincide with my current experiences in life.

When do you get the chance to write songs, and/or do demos while you are on the road?
As long as I'm awake I'm always creating songs in my mind. I am inspired by almost anything that I see or experience. I always travel with my dictaphone (small recoding device) so when I get an idea for a song I record it immediately so that I don't forget the melody or the words.

Are there plans to do an album? Have you ever released an album?
So far I've released various mixtapes but no albums. I am currently working on my debut album to be released on my own Capcha Entertainment record label in 2011. Before I do so I'll release a mixtape in November of this year.

Do you have any hopes of starting your own production house to unearth and discover new talent in Jamaica?

I can only speak to the present and that I'll be working with talented new musicians and producers out of Jamaica for my upcoming album. Not to say that I wouldn't embark on new ventures, but I will make those decisions as I feel compelled to do so.
