Dancehall fans are wondering if Vybz Kartel's murder trial, which is set for November 18, will be postponed once again. If so, it will mean that the deejay will be forced to spend his third consecutive Christmas holidays without his family. Supreme Court judge, Marjorie Cole-Smith, set a new trial date for November 18 through to December 6 but at this time of the year, a lot of cases are often put off until the Hilary session which begins in January.

What are Kartel's chances? Figure it out for yourself. During the last Michaelmas term, which began in September 2012 and ends on December 21, there are 611 cases on the court list, and of that number, only 54 cases were disposed of. That means just under 9 per cent of the cases were resolved. The cases before the Home Circuit Court during last year's Michaelmas term included 346 cases of murder, 29 wounding with intent and 139 sexual offense cases.
