Dancehall music just got another black eye as dancehall artiste Ninjaman was found guilty of murder a short while ago in the Supreme Court.

Ninjaman, whose given name is Desmond Ballentine, was charged  along with his son Jahneil with the March 2009 murder of Ricardo Johnson, also known as Trooper, on Marl Road in Kingston.

The dancehall fraternity reacted with "shock and awe" at Ninjaman's guilty verdict delivered today in the Supreme Court after a month-long trial. Dancehall artiste Kiprich admitted that he was "in shock" at the verdict.

"Da one ya mash mi up, mi never expect this, he tried his best to turn his life around, I was just hoping that the system saw the new Ninja, but I don't know what went down. Right now, mi inna shock, mi never expect a guilty verdict, because him say him innocent right through the trial," Kiprich told one876 editor Claude Mills.

Kiprich, a victor of several high profile dancehall clashes, had a close relationship with Ninjaman who crowned him the new Clash King of Sting years ago.

"This is a dark day for dancehall, for a legend to do any form of sentence, especially at his age, is really hard. It no mek no sense, worse he has a heart condition. it is not a good look. Ninjaman had been doing a lot of community events, and charity shows, and he did a lot of things on social media encouraging the youths to stop do crime, so for this to happen, it hard fi deal wid," Kiprich said.

Several entertainers posted pics with themselves and Ninjaman, most captioned with the phrase of solidarity : "jah know Ninjaman!'.

However, it was surprising the number of Jamaicans who reacted with schadenfreude, and joy at Ninjaman's guilty verdict. On Instagram, under the pics and well wishes of many entertainers, they posted stinging rebukes and questions asking what about the families of the man who was murdered etc?

Some even posted lines like:

Party fans it's here again for the first time (sic) when the Ministries of National Security and Justice  in association with the Department of Corrections present a ting call 'Dancehall Cyaa Stall: Di Prison Edition' featuring the ever-fresh and lyrically potent, Vybz Kartel.
