The organizers of the New York Jerk & Yam Fest are announcing a move of the event from Queens to Brooklyn - the epicenter of all Caribbean cultural activities over the Labor Day weekend. The move will allow the event to capitalize on the approximately 3 million revelers who come to the city to experience Caribbean culture for the weekend and who savor mouthwatering Caribbean foods. The New York Jerk & Yam Fest will now be held at the Brooklyn Tech Athletics Field, Sunday, September 5, 2010.

“We think it’s a perfect fit” says event spokesperson Dr. John Dixon. “What better way to launch a wonderful display of Caribbean food & culture than to have it on the ultimate weekend of Caribbean food & culture?”
Dr. Dixon stated that there were some minor obstacles with the original location and date, but that in the end the team felt that a family event on this scale belonged on Labor Day Weekend at a time when people of all Caribbean backgrounds come together to celebrate and enjoy time with their families and friends.
All elements from the original venue will remain in place; there will still be a performance by the #1 live band out of Jamaica Fab 5, a Caribbean Gospel Brunch, a Culture Yard, and everything else that was part of the original program.
Dr Dixon also hinted at some new elements; announcing the addition of a Roti Village among other new features to be announced soon.
“Roti is one of the top dishes in the Caribbean, and especially for Labor Day weekend we felt it belonged in the ultimate showcase of food & culture. Like our event being moved to Labor Day weekend in Brooklyn, we also felt that Roti would be a perfect fit. With the addition of our new village, it is going to be a Jerk, Yam, and Roti Jam” he raved.
The event will be hosted by Dahved Levy of the no # 1 rated Caribbean Show on 107.5 FM WBLS.
