A man charged with chopping a woman in the shoulder and face appeared appeared before Resident Magistrate Horace Mitchell in the Spanish Town RM Court on February 13.

The accused, John Edwards, pleaded not guilty to the charges of malicious and unlawful wounding.

The case was set for trial on February 27.

Allegations are that in last year he used a machete and chopped the complainant Denise St. John twice on the left side of shoulder and face.

He denied the allegations.

"Your honour, is dem attack me. She, her sister and brother gang mi an dem was beating me so I used the machete to defend mi self and it catch her," Edwards explained.

Edwards has been in custody for over a year and the judge ordered that before a bail offer can be considered, his address needed to be verified.
