The incident took place outside the Tabletop Restaurant in the heart of Santa Cruz, which Barham operated with his wife.
The woman has been identified as Latoya Williamson, who is said to be in her 20s. Anecdotal stories said that Barham was having an affair with Latoya Williamson and had bought her a car. However, the young lady, in the company of another man, pulled up to Barham's establishment in the said. Barham reportedly went berserk and pulled his gun, and shot at both the young lady and the young man. Latoya was shot dead, while the man, who was injured, escaped. Police later arrived and it is not clear what transpired, but Barham was shot dead.
Witnesses said that a policeman, who was in the vicinity, ordered the businessman to drop his weapon but he did not comply and was shot.
Barham represented the JLP in the Siloah Division of North East St Elizabeth in the 2007 and 2012 local government elections and lost on both occasions to sitting Councillor Audie Myers.
