Ambition never ends with the first million. Just ask entrepreneur-turned-deejay Gary Snypes whose latest single, Poor Nuh More, is blowing up on FM radio, a major achievement for a young man who has made millions as a businessman.

“I am really a businessman at heart but I have always loved the deejay business, and I am glad that I am getting the chance to pursue my dream and I love the direction my career is going in right now,” he said.

Born Gary Forbes, he grew up in the sleepy town of Annotto Bay which hugs the coast of St. Mary. He attended Annotto Bay All Age, then Buff Bay Secondary where he excelled at business administration subjects. After he graduated, he dabbled in music when he started deejaying on the Stereo Mattic sound system. He also made a few high-energy appearances on stage shows all over St. Mary, however, he soon found that he had to make ends meet so he took a job as a sales representative, and inevitably started his own successful import-export business which continues to thrive today.

Now that he is a successful entrepreneur, he has decided to once again pursue his first love, music.

Given the buzz on his Poor Nuh More single, he has decided to go all out, and he shot the video for the single in September 2010. The video is directed by Infrared of Low Budget Entertainment, and will be available for release in October this year. The single is a late entry on Seanizzle’s runaway hit riddim, One Day.

“Seanizzle is my friend, when he did One Day, he sent the riddim to me, and I wrote a song, recorded it and sent the demo to him. When he listened to the demo, he was silent for two minutes, and then he said two words, ‘it bad!’, and then he said I should come to the studio in Jamaica to voice it,” he said .

Gary Snypes is also a producer, who has his own record label, Off the Chain Productions, which has over 20 rhythms in its catalogue. He has a roster of new artistes who he believes will be on the forefront of the dancehall movement in the 21st century. The artistes on the label are Acid, O Jeezy, Kaushon, and a sensational female singer called Empress Latoya. The first rhythm project that is slated for release is the bouncy World Riddim which features all the artistes on his roster as well as musical heavyweights like Gyptian, and George Nooks.

“Gyptian say ah the Nooks’ song ah the baddest ting,” he said.

In the meantime, Gary Snypes continues to write and record singles. He was in Jamaica in September where he voiced a Mama Don’t Cry single on the hot new Bloodshed riddim.
