When you hear the name King James, you immediately think of the incredibly popular version of the bible, but this King James is living in the 21st century and he is a Jamaican-born dancehall deejay who is looking to change the world with his music.
This young man is almost religious in his belief that he will make it in the competitive music industry and judging by the buzz around his latest single, It's My Life, 2013 could well be his breakout year. "I am getting a lot of feedback about 'It's My Life' on music-sharing websites like soundcloud, and on social-networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, I performed the song at a party called From Nothing to Something in June and I got some big forwards for it. So based on the reaction, I shot a video for the song in Long Island, New York, and I am now releasing that video in Jamaica this Summer," King James said. He believes that dancehall fans will enjoy the concept of the video. "It is basically a build back kinda vibe with friends hanging out. I have a couple of scenes with bikes with riders performing stunts and wheelies and burning out tyres and scenes with friends hanging out at a park and playing basketball, it is a happy, feel-good video," he said. You can check out the video online at www.evablessrecords.com where you can also download the video as well as King James' latest mixtape, Form Nothing to Something on his Evabless Promotions label. The rhythm for the production was built by Vigor from House of Stars. Born Kenroy Gayle, on July 30, 1986 in Mandeville, he moved to the United States at an early age and has been a fan of reggae music all his life. At the age of 10, he started his musical career as a sound system selector. After about four years, he decided to turn his attention to making music of his own. "This has been a great journey for me, I am fully focussed on my recording career, and on producing young acts and working to get them mainstream attention. I have a couple of great rhythms and as the Summer approaches, I plan to amp up my promotion with videos and new singles on my own Eva Bless label," he said. He has recorded with artistes such as Little Hero and Meeky Melody, and started working on his first album about a year ago, a project simply titled My Life. This album pays homage to an eclectic mix of music influences, and he dubs the project "music for everyone". King James is a devoted father who likes spending quality time with his two sons when he is not in the recording studio. He is now seeking to sign talented producers, songwriters and beatmakers to his Eva Bless Records label. In the future, he wants to kick off his Eva Bless Movement tour where he will perform all over the world, bringing his reggae-soul-dancehall sound to the world. He is now in Jamaica where he has done interviews on FAME FM's Full House Fridays and on TVJ's Intense. "Right now, I am just doing straight promotion right now, getting my music all over the world," he said.
