St. Catherine resident Edgar Knight is no knight in shining armour. He is suspected to have taken a pickaxe stick and killed his wife, who he had suspected was having an affair with another man. Then he drank the weedkiller Gramaxone and took his own life.

Knight was suspected of killing his wife Mara-Lee Russell-Knight, otherwise called Lisa, 43, of Banister, Housing Scheme in Old Harbour, St Catherine. Residents say things soured between the couple after Mrs. Knight went overseas for a length of time. Then one day, she returned and moved out her possessions.

They though the couple had been trying to patch things up when she returned to the family home on the day of the murder.

"The next thing we hear is somebody ah bawl out fi murder and someone see Edgar ah walk away from his house and a drink from a bottle. Hours later the police find him curl up inna the bushess

Reports are that at about 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Knight was at home when a disagreement developed with his wife, where he accused her of being unfaithful.

It is alleged that Knight then grabbed a pickaxe which he used to rain blows on her head, after which she collapsed. Knight then grabbed a bottle containing Gramaxone and threatened to kill himself before running off into bushes.

He was chased by relatives and was seen consuming the poisonous substance.

The police were summoned and Knight was held by the police and taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was admitted in a very serious condition, and later died.
