Orchestrated attacks by maraduing gunmen brought the Corporate Area to its knees last night as two gunmen were killed and six cops injured during running gunbattles in the Corporate Area.


Several police stations came under sustained gunfire from criminals intent on challenging the power of the state. The Hannah Town police station
was torched, the Darling Street station was abandoned by cops who were unable to repel the attack of gunmen, while a civilian was shot and killed in front of the Fletcher's Land police station. The Denham Town police station, the divisional headquarters of the West Kingston division, was able to repel an attack from gunmen, while the Cross Roads police station also came under attack from gunmen who fired at the station from the nearby post office.

The two policemen who were killed were from the East Kingston division and they had been responding to a robbery in progress in Mountain View Avenue
when they were ambushed by gunmen.

Roadblocks were mounted in trouble spots such as Mountain View Avenue, Hagley Park and Keesing roads, Molynes Road, Spanish Town Road.

Looters sought to profit from the breakdown in law and order to rob the Ying Yang Wholesale and Haberdashery on Molynes Road, while shops along Princess and West streets were burglarised.Sporadic bursts of gunfire are now being reported in the 100 Lane and whitehall Avenue of Red Hills Road.
