US-based recording artiste Schen is not afraid of the bright lights of fame. Spunky, outspoken and highly motivated, she believes that she is ready to take on whatever the world has to throw in her general direction.

“I am ready for almost anything,” she said, laughing.

Schen is amped that she is generating a buzz with her first official single, 'Ready'. The single, released on the Abscott Entertainment label, on June 15, 2018, is now available on iTunes and all other downloadable platforms. She just started the Jamaican promotional push of her song.

"The response to the song in Jamaica has been great so far, it has been added to rotation on ZIP FM with the disc jocks, ZJ Ice, ZJ Dymond and ZJ Rush, plus Fire Wayne from Suncity Radio, DJ Smurf from IRIE, and DJ Mookie from Portland. I want to big up all the selectors who are showing the song some love," Schen, whose real name is Shenequewa Absolom, said.

A video, released for the project in November 2018, has racked up thousands of views so far on video sharing site, YouTube.

Schen is proud of her Jamaican roots as her parents hail from Barrett Town, St. James. Schen was born in the Bronx, then grew up in Queens where she attended Benjamin N Cardozo high school. She is largely a self-taught vocalist but honed her talents between private school choirs and listening to classic reggae tunes.

Growing up, she used to watch her Jamaican father’s sound system get ready for different parties, and through this process, she gained a greater appreciation for a wide range of music genres, a quality that serves her well as she crafts her own unique sound -  a swashbuckling mix of R&B, reggae, dancehall and pop.

"They’d string up wires to speaker boxes and mess around with sounds and audio until they found the exact quality that would represent their sound. I learned to enjoy and appreciate a wide variety of music because of that sound system experience," she said.

Although she wasn't actively involved in a choir during her high school years, Schen always knew she wanted to be a part of the creative music process from an early age.

"There was something about creating a vibe that made people feel good that intrigued me and that is why I want to be an entertainer," she said.

During her teens, Schen began singing at gatherings at various events and venues where she would wow audiences with her seductive ice-cube clear vocals. Schen is also an accomplished songwriter, and she has been meticulously honing her skills writing songs since the age of 18.

She is presently signed to Abscott Entertainment, and over the last few months, she has been locked in the studio, fine-tuning her sound, writing and recording songs for her debut EP.

"I love writing, being able to express myself whether it's over an instrumental of my favourite song or over a rhythm I purchased online. Writing awakens my confidence in a way I never thought possible," she said.

The spunky 26 year-old is gearing up to release her second single, the saucy 'Get Vex Money', in April.

"We will be shooting the video for 'Get Vex Money' next month in Florida, it's going to be epic,” Schen said.
