An accused man pleaded guilty with explanation for stabbing his girlfriend all over the body when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrates' court earlier this week.

The accused, Ben Hammond, told Resident Magistrate Tara Reid-Carr that he gave her money to purchase things for the house and she went to the gambling shop instead and wasted all the funds.

He further explained that when he approached the complainant, an argument developed and an object was used to inflict a gash on his head, and it was in his defence that he used his knife. Hammond was then told by the judge that his plea was actually one of self defence  .

His case will again be mentioned on May 11, 2016. It was also ordered that since the incident occurred in Old Harbour, it was more ideal for it to be heard in that jurisdiction.
