What began as a hobby has materialized into a profession for rising reggae artiste Vanchi. The singer/deejay who originally hails from Clarendon, Jamaica, is described as a time bomb waiting to explode.
“I am a people person with a great sense of humor which can be identified in most of my music. I am a reggae artiste but I lean more towards dancehall music with an international appeal and crossover flavor”, says Vanchi.
Vanchi made his recording debut in 2005. He recorded a track Have a Good Time at his friend Scorpion’s home studio in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The song was produced by Steven Chung and Scorpion and it featured KM Blunt.
“When I recorded the song I did it as a hobby at the time. More and more persons were discovering my talent and it was after that when I decided to follow my musical interests professionally”, Vanchi explained.
He would later record about six more songs but none were released commercially. He later moved to Hollywood, California where his musical aspirations began kick in.
Musically he would later record the track Good Life featuring Rasco on one of DJ Frass’ rhythms which was obtained from the internet. The song was later re-recorded and produced by DJ Frass who would also produce another effort titled Me Nuh Worry on the Gully Bomb rhythm.
He describes his musical journey as being a bit rough however he has continued to soldier on against the odds. “My musical journey has been a little bumpy so far but I am crushing all my obstacles and stumbling blocks with my sick creative style and lyrics”, he reassured.
Born Chris Russell, he explains that the name Vanchi was derived from an Italian designer because of his swag and style of dressing.
Vanchi’s most recent musical offerings include the song Beautiful Woman for Samacon Productions out of New York. He is set to work with producer Keith Orleans, an American R&B/pop producer who helmed You’re a Jerk by the hip hop duo New Boyz.
Vanchi recently released the video for the single I’m Still Alive.
