Two men, Chavis Leslie and Courtney Martin, were jointly charged with receiving stolen property when they appeared in the Spanish Town RM Court before Resident Magistrate Simone Maddix earlier this week.
It is alleged that the complainant who resides in the Greater Portmore area retired to bed around 1 a.m. with a Huawei cellular phone on the bed, a Blackberry on the dresser and a Galaxy on the kitchen counter. It was further said that around 2 a.m., one of the complainants saw an individual in full black pick up something off the dresser and went back outside. Believing that it was her father, she said nothing and went back to bed. When they awoke at 5 a.m., they realised that the three cellular phones were missing along with a charger. A report was subsequently made at the Greater Portmore Police Station.
On February 18, 2015 around 11:55 a.m. police were patrolling the said area and saw a crowd converged and a man tied up and in the process of being beaten by the angry throng. He was taken to the station where he was searched and the three cellular phones found. They were all identified by the respective owners.
"Officer I didn't break into any house and is Chavis give me the phones to wipe," Martin reportedly explained to the officer.
It was then that the premises of Leslie was searched and the charger along with two sim cards found and later identified to be those of the complainants.
When cautioned Chavis uttered "Is a yute name Skerl give me and I tek dem to Courtney to wipe dem".
Martin, who is currently on bail had his extended but Leslie awaits the verification of an address before his bail can be considered. The case will again be mentioned on March 10, 2015.
