Over the past two months, there has been a surge in the number of persons being brought before the Spanish Town RM court on charges of abstracting electricity.

"There is a break down of law and order. This is the beginning of an anarchy. (This happens with) too great frequency in St. Catherine and it bothers me. I do not agree with breaking the law and it's my intention to send a message," a peeved RM Ann-marie Nembhard remarked in court, after she acknowledged that she had four pages of persons listed for abstracting electricity.

Over 20 persons were in attendance in the Spanish Town RM Court, while warrants were ordered for 3 persons who failed to show.

When Mrs. Maureen Ludlow-Brown stood in the dock and blatantly said: "your honour I'm not working right now and I know I bridge the light but is not me personally bridge is my friend I ask", the judge was not amused.

RM Nembhard scolded her for laughing during the explanation.

"You think it's funny? You stand there laughing. Let's see if you think it's funny $150,000 or 6 months at hard labour. Now you have a conviction order against your name."
