A policeman was mowed down by a driver in a hit-and-run accident in Trelawny today. Inspector Mark Gibbs of the Clarke’s Town Police Station, in Trelawny, was killed when a driver ran him down during a spot check. The cop sustained fatal head injuries.

Gibbs was among a team of officers conducting spot checks in front the police station, when he signalled a car to stop.

The driver reportedly slowed, as if he were about to stop, then sped up and swerved toward the cop. The inspector tried jumping out the way but it was too late.
