On August 20th, a joint team of municipal officers and police officers cleared the streets of Spanish Town of all illegal vending.  Several wooden stalls, benches, stands and several consumer items, including clothing, were seized and demolished.

The operation started at the LOJ Shopping Centre before branching out into Chambers Lane, Rum Lane, Young Street and then concluded at their office at Hanover Street. The members of the populace hurled insults at the officers as they were less than pleased with their presence.

"Unno too tief and when war start inna de town nuff a unno ago dead," uttered a man who was disgusted at  the behaviour of the municipal officers.

"Yu a tief! Yu tief de woman phone cards. How de woman have de cards inna ar hand n u draw dem out?" another man asked loudly.

The operation was lead by Inspector L. Brown and ex-police Inspector C. MaLavah who is in charge of the municipal enforcement officers. Stalls, benches, stands and all other items including clothing were seized and demolished.

This was done under the watchful eyes of a contingent of policemen and JDF soldiers.
