Jamaica’s Leah Nugent, who was earlier disqualified from the women’s 400m hurdles in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has been reinstated and will now advance to the semi-finals of the event.

Nugent, one of three Jamaicans who were vying for semi-final spots earlier tonight, was disqualified for a trail leg violation after she finished second in her heat in a time of 55.66s.

The trail leg violation occurs when a hurdler's trail leg swings around the hurdle instead of going over it.
