Popular dancehall artiste Risto Benjie of Unity Drive, Kingston 11 was killed by unknown assailants at 10 last night in Church Pen, Spanish Town.

According to the CCN, the artiste was killed by armed men who took
his life in a blaze of bullets.

"He was walking along Vietnam Lane in Church Pen when some armed men
approached him and opened fire hitting him all over his body," the
officer told this morning.

He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Risto Benjie was a popular figure in music circles but in recent years, he had become entangled too often in criminal activities.

"Bwoy, mi sorry fi hear about his death, him and everybody inna the music business spar from time to time, ah good yute, is just that he made some poor
decisions, but ah one ah we, an artiste, and we just know say him drop flesh and ah just life set," fellow entertainer Fantan Mojah commented when contacted this morning.

Last year, the entertainer was caught by an angry mob as he allegedly
attempted to steal a motorcycle, was soundly beaten and handed over to
the New Kingston police.

Three years ago, the entertainer who is known for songs like Passport
Buddy, Don't Press Button, Don't Pirate It and Gimme De Money was also
accused of being involved in the robbery of a woman in Spanish Town,
St Catherine. At the time, he had been charged with robbery with
aggravation and appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's
Court on that matter.
